Academic Misconduct

  • No discussions between students about the assignment problems – of any kind (or duration) – are allowed. Any evidence that such discussions have taken place will be considered as evidence of academic misconduct.
  • If the students wish to discuss or help with each other then the students can choose one of the TA examples (i.e, spreadsheet, database) on the lab wiki.
  • The students’ conversation MUST end and the students should move away from each other while they start working on the original assignment. If TA’s find students are working together in group on the assignment then it is considered as an act of academic misconduct and TA’s should report to their instructor immediately.
  • ALL material that students incorporate in their submissions – with the (sole exception) of the material students are told they MUST start with on the assignment description itself, MUST be cited. This includes material obtained from lectures, lab or office hours from instructors/TA’s, materials obtained from the lab wiki. Evidence that any such material has been included in a student’s submission without proper citation will also be considered as evidence of academic misconduct.
  • If the material is used and cited, then the TA’s are aware of it. They can assign marks for ORIGINALITY accordingly.
