Math

General Math Sites

Internet Mathematics Library

  • An organized collection of links to mathematics sites from the well-known Math Forum at Drexel University.

Mathematics Illuminated

  • A multimedia resource created for high school teachers and adult learners by Annenberg Media. The website provides free access to all components of the 13 content units, which each consist of a half-hour video program, an online textbook chapter, and group or individual hands-on learning activities. In addition, nine of the thirteen units have a web-based interactive. The website also includes a family tree of mathematical concepts.

Steven Strogatz on the Elements of Math

  • A fifteen-part New York Times series explaining elements of math in terms comprehensible to the general public.

Math Problems and Investigations

  • Intriguing math problems, puzzles and investigations from the Galileo Educational Network, housed in the Faculty of Education at the University of Calgary.

Figure This

  • Family math challenges from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Lesson Plans

Illuminations

  • Large collection of K-12 math lessons and online activities from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

Math Central

  • A site mathematics students and teachers, including lots of lesson plans, maintained by faculty and students in Mathematics and Statistics and Mathematics Education at the University of Regina.

Interactives/Games

Interactivate

  • The goals of Interactivate are the creation, collection, evaluation and dissemination of interactive Java-based courseware for exploration in mathematics and science

Visual Math Learning

  • A free interactive multimedia on-line tutorial for math students. Its first level, Numbers and Arithmetic, is a pre-Algebra course for middle-school age.

Interactive Mathematics Projects

  • Seventeen different interactive math projects from the Center for Technology and Teacher Education at the University of Virginia.

Seeing Math

  • Interactive software tools to clarify key mathematical ideas in middle and high school mathematics.

Wired Math

  • From the University of Waterloo, this offers math games, lessons, challenges and enrichment. It is created for middle or junior high school grade 7, grade 8, grade 9, and grade 10 students, teachers, parents and tutors.

Math Snacks

  • Short animations and mini–games designed to help learners in grades 6-8 understand various mathematical concepts (the 'bad date' animation might teach some social skills too!). From New Mexico State University.

Think Math

  • Web-based math activities from Harcourt School Publishers, indexed for grades K-5.

Videos

Mathvids

  • Collection of math videos from many sources on the internet, from middle school to college level.

Khan Academy Videos

  • PLaylists of videos on a wide range of math concepts, from arithmetic to multivariable calculus.

Teaching Mathematics

  • A series of short video discussions and demonstrations designed for middle school mathematics teachers. Each video targets a particular algebraic concept. From the Virginia Department of Education.

Specific Topics

Geometry 3D Shapes

  • Explores the geometry of prisms and pyramids. Interactive features allow the student to rotate a shape and observe the number of faces, edges and vertices of prisms and pyramids.

Fractals

  • A fractals units for elementary and middle school that's both enjoyable and educational. From Rice University.

Smart Measurement

  • An organized, annotated set of links to websites that teach different kinds of measurement: length, time, perimeter and area, weight and volume, angles and money. For grades K-6.

Algebasics

  • A resource for reinforcing and reviewing algebra skills. Click on any of a wide number of different equations to get a visual and auditory explanation of how to solve it.

Create a Graph

  • Allows students to input data to create five different kinds of graphs. From the American National Center for Education Statistics.

Texas Instruments Education Portal

  • Activities exchange portal for ideas for using classroom calculators.

Math History

Slates, Sliderules and Software: Teaching Math in America

  • Of general interest, this is an online virtual exhibit of the kinds of 'devices' that have been used to teach mathematical concepts at different times.
