Used bookstores

Posted by Heather Ganshorn

Calgary has some great used bookstores. My absolute favourite is Annie's Book Company (912 16 Ave. NW), which is worth a visit for the crazy 1960s and 70s furniture alone, but also has a great selection of books. Near Annie's is Aquila Books, which specializes in out of print and antiquarian books and maps.

In Kensington there are a few good bookstores all in walking distance of one another (to get there, take the c-train to Sunnyside station, walk up past the Safeway, and hang a left on 10th St.). The Wee Book Inn on Kensington Rd. is good for genre fiction paperbacks. It's also near Pages, an independent bookstore (new books, not used). Then on 10th street, right off of Kensington, you'll find Baskerville Books and Author Author, both of which have good collections of literary fiction. There's also the Book Loft on 10th St., which I'm not yet familiar with, as it's new. Kensington is also a trendy shopping area, with coffee shops, pubs and clothing and art stores.

17th Ave. SW is the other trendy shopping area, and also has a few used bookstores. There's another Wee Book Inn, Fair's Fair, and The Best Little Wordhouse in the West.

Check out the most recent issue of Loulou Magazine [1] for some Calgary shopping tips -- it's their feature city this month!
